Counterfeit check scam by Nigerian crooks.

It works like this:
You receive a mail that a guy wants to buy your advertised horse, he agrees on your asking price without any hagling or under bidding. He will propose a method of payment with a cashiercheck drawn on an US bank.
In The Method of payment he will propose to write out the check with a much higher amount.
In ourcase he wrote out acheck 10,000.00 USDLLR to pay for a 4,000.00 USDLLR Foal.
For the extra money he proposed we needed to write out a check and sent this to him.
In this case 6,000 .00 USDLLR.
Normal practice in The Netherlands is that a cashiercheck drawn on a US Bank will be paid out on the account of the bearer right away. So the receiver thinks; good the money is in the account so I can savely write out the check for 6000 to my partner and make the foal ready for shipping.
Huge mistake however bcs The Dutch banks pay out the cashier checks on the condition, in small print, sometimes with out even letting the client know, that when the check bounces and the money can not be cleared from the US-Bank they will withdraw the money, in this case 10,000.00 USDLLR from your account.
This happens after some 3 weeks when it becomes clear that the check is no good.
The 6000 usdllr you wrote out for your "foal buying-partner" is offcourse immidiately cashed and withdrawn.
That leaves you with a loss of 6000 usdllr and no bussiness!

Below the mail corespondance between the crook and me, needless to say that we never thought of sending him a good check of 6000 usdllrs before his money duly cleared.

Apart from the mails he phoned a 20 times to urge us to send him the check of 6000usdllr, with all kind of pressurising information: His client would have him arrested and a ship was to leave to pick up the foal etc etc.
The guy mailing as an horsebuying agent calls himself:

Thanks for your mail,as you may have known by now that i am an agent who
deals with buying and selling of Horses of different kinds of breeds. I have
spoken with my customer and he has instructed me to inform you
that payment will get to you in a refund cashier check with excess amount
above the cost of your Horse,and is a refund payment of a cancelled
order earlier made by my customer.Due to the company that owes him, this check
has to be made out in this
amount $10,000.00 owed to him in full to you ,because company policy only
allows a refund payment on one cashier check,so you will be required to
deduct cost of your Horse which is $4,000.00,when check payment gets to
you,then you will refund the excess balance of $6,000.00 to my customer
via western union money transfer for him to be able to upset shipping
charges down here and from there and pay up the agent coming to pick up
the Horse.
After payment has reached you and excess balance sent back to him,I the
agent [Mr Roland Delveqio] will come and pick up the shipping
particulars of the Horse with other necessary documents thats goes with
the Horse and drop to a prepaid shipper to be shipped to my customer,and
he will take care of title papers and other necessary documets making sure
they get to him, via fedex courier.
Confirm this and provide name and address and phone number for check
payment package to be sent and delivered to you via fedex courier.You can

number as it is written. I'll be awaiting your timely response in regards this
mail.

I am sorry to say however that my bank had a problem with the check
because you did not fill out a 'drawer' and a Place (City) from where
to money has to be drawn.

So they have the check now and will inform me asap when the money has
cleared. (Normally they credit me with the amount before they clear the
money, not now however. This is also less risk for me since when the
check is bouncing the bank will deduct the money again)

So I guess this is the safest way, please bear with and I will get back

where the funds should be withdrawn from because my customer said the funds should be withdrawn from that accont. so all you need to do now is go back to your bank and tell them to hasten the payment based on the ship that will be leaving by this weekend is what my customer is worried about.
So please my dear brother try and do the best you can to make sure that i don't loose my relationship with my customer because he has been avery good customer to me. so please endeavour to send down the balance so that my customer can pay up the agent that is coming for the pickup of the horse and after the check clears you can then have all to yourself.

Thanks for your mail, i have read and understood all what you said but my dear friend this transaction ought not to have taken this long.Because if you trust me the way i have trusted you to have allowed my customer to entrust such amount into your care i don't think you will be making me go through all this harrassment from my customer. please johan try to go back to your bank as soon as you get this mail and hasten them to make the payment to you afterall it is the bank that said the check was not written out well which i told my customer and he immediately sent the account where the funds should be withdrawn from.
So what else does your bank wants to know again or better still why not send down my customer's balance with the details i have sent to you before because of the trust i have for you so that i can save myself from the embarrassment this is causing mePlease get back to me as soon as possible.
